Prophetic Lesson on the Power of the Name of God

(Proverbs 18: 10-11; Background: Genesis 1:1; Genesis 4:26; Exodus 3:13-15; Exodus 6:2-3; 1 Kings 8:33-36)

What is it that I need from you?  (Isaiah 66:1-2) You approach Me with fear as to what I will require as if it is grievous. My power is for those who seek Me for my Name's sake.  (Psalm 23:3) What do I mean by, "for My Name's sake"?  You must know that I Am and that My Name is above all else and I honor My Word because of My Name's sake.  This is the attitude of the Almighty.  I Am that I AM and that is a reflection of My Name.  You think of a name as an identifying label.  My Name is Who I Am.  "In My Name you will cast out devils," (Mark 16:17-18) indicates a position of authority IN My name.  You have thought that this means only the use of My Name.  It is so much more that that.  It is dwelling in My Name.  You are asking, "How do I do this?  Where do I find that place?"  I will tell you.

1.  Recognize that obedience to My Name should be the attitude of My children.  You represent all that I Am and as such would never think of betraying My Name. (Matthew 18:5; Matthew 5:16; Matthew 6:9; John 14:13-14)

2.  Do not take My Name in vain.  (Exodus 20:7) This means that you do not use My Name in a context that does not rightly reflect all that I Am.  Taking My Name in vain takes the authority of all that I AM from you.  How do you take My name in vain:

       >Attributing to My Name those things that are not of Me

       >Accusing My Name in your words or deeds

       >Failing to be obedient to all that I Am—My Character

       (Psalms 50:15-23)

3.  Dwell in unity with My Word.  "I honor My Word above My Name indicates that all that I Am—as it is reflected in My Word—is supported by all that I Am in My Name.  I will explain this to you this way: A building is more visible than the foundation upon which it stands.  Therefore the building is above the foundation but is not greater in value although it may appear greater in dimension.  Just so My Word is seen by all but it is based upon that that you do not see. (Psalms 138:2-3)

4.  Love My Name.  I Am is with you in My Name.  The Name of Lucifer was changed because that was the name I gave to him—his possession; his position in Me.  This is why you have a new name in heavenly places.  Your authority in Me is restored and your name is changed from one who has no authority over the enemy to one who shares in the victory of the Christ and is in Him. (Psalms 91:14-16; Psalm 5:11)

5.  Allow Me to "brand" you with My Name.  As the Christ is formed in you you are being branded as My own.  My image again rests upon you.  This only comes by your total submission to Me.  If you trust Me you will receive the eternal name that I have given you.  Without that eternal name you have no place in My Name; no place in me—just as the fallen one. (Revelation 2:17)

God revealed Himself—Who He is—through His names.  These Names altogether were pointing to the Christ—the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Isaiah 52:5-7; Isaiah 52:13-15; Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:21-23)

Proverbs 18:10-11

10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the [consistently] righteous man [upright and in right standing with God] runs into it and is safe, high [above evil] and strong. 11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high protecting wall in his own imagination and conceit. AMP

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. NKJV (Elohim-Creator Mighty and strong—the ALL)

Genesis 4:26

26 And to Seth also a son was born, whom he named Enosh. At that time men began to call [upon God] by the name of the Lord. AMP

Exodus 3:13-15 (They had forgotten Him)

13 And Moses said to God, Behold, when I come to the Israelites and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they say to me, What is His name? What shall I say to them? 14 And God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM and WHAT I AM, and I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE; and He said, You shall say this to the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you! 15 God said also to Moses, This shall you say to the Israelites: The Lord, the God of your fathers, of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has sent me to you! This is My name forever, and by this name I am to be remembered to all generations. AMP (I Am self-existent also God of Covenant)

Exodus 6:2-3

2 And God said to Moses, I am the Lord. 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty [El-Shaddai], but by My name the Lord [Yahweh — the redemptive name of God] I did not make Myself known to them [in acts and great miracles]. AMP

1 Kings 8:33-36

33 When Your people Israel are struck down before the enemy because they have sinned against You, and they turn again to You, confess Your name (Your revelation of Yourself), and pray, beseeching You in this house, 34 Then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of Your people Israel and return them to the land You gave to their fathers. 35 When heaven is shut up and no rain falls because they have sinned against You, if they pray in [or toward] this place and confess Your name (Your revelation of Yourself) and turn from their sin when You afflict them, 36 Then hear in heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, when You teach them the good way in which they should walk. And give rain upon Your land which You have given to Your people as an inheritance. AMP

Isaiah 66:1-2

Thus says the LORD:

"Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest? 2 For all those things My hand has made, And all those things exist, "Says the LORD. "But on this one will I look: On him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, And who trembles at My word. NKJV

Psalms 23:3

3 He restores my soul;

He leads me in the paths of righteousness

For His name's sake. NKJV

Psalms 23:3

3 He refreshes and restores my life (my self); He leads me in the paths of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him — not for my earning it, but] for His name's sake. AMP

Mark 16:17-18 (Because of Who He is)

17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." NKJV

Matthew 18:5

5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me. NKJV

Matthew 18:5

5 And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me. NLT

Matthew 5:16

16 Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven. AMP

Matthew 6:9-10

9 Pray, therefore, like this: Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. AMP

John 14:13-14

13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, because the work of the Son brings glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask anything in my name, and I will do it! NLT (See Next)

John 14:13

13 And I will do [I Myself will grant] whatever you ask in My Name [as presenting all that I AM], so that the Father may be glorified and extolled in (through) the Son. AMP

Exodus 20:7

7 You shall not use or repeat the name of the Lord your God in vain [that is, lightly or frivolously, in false affirmations or profanely]; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. AMP

7 "Do not misuse the name of the LORD your God. The LORD will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name. NLT

Psalms 50:15-23

15 And call on Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall honor and glorify Me. 16 But to the wicked, God says: What right have you to recite My statutes or take My covenant or pledge on your lips,

17 Seeing that you hate instruction and correction and cast My words behind you [discarding them]? 18 When you see a thief, you associate with him, and you have taken part with adulterers. 19 You give your mouth to evil, and your tongue frames deceit. 20 You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son. 21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was once entirely like you. But [now] I will reprove you and put [the charge] in order before your eyes. 22 Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver. 23 He who brings an offering of praise and thanksgiving honors and glorifies Me; and he who orders his way aright [who prepares the way that I may show him], to him I will demonstrate the salvation of God. Psalms 138:2-3

2 I will worship toward Your holy temple,

And praise Your name

For Your lovingkindness and Your truth;

For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

3 In the day when I cried out, You answered me,

And made me bold with strength in my soul. NKJV

Psalms 138:2

2 I bow before your holy Temple as I worship.

I will give thanks to your name

for your unfailing love and faithfulness,

because your promises are backed

by all the honor of your name. NLT

Psalms 91:14-16

14 "Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.

15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;

I will be with him in trouble;

I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life I will satisfy him,

And show him My salvation." NKJV

Psalms 5:11-12

11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;

Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;

Let those also who love Your name

Be joyful in You.

12 For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous;

With favor You will surround him as with a shield. NKJV

Revelation 2:17

17 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it."' NKJV

Isaiah 52:5-7

5 But now what have I here, says the Lord, seeing that My people have been taken away for nothing? Those who rule over them howl [with joy], says the Lord, and My name continually is blasphemed all day long. [Rom 2:24.] 6 Therefore My people shall know what My name is and what it means; therefore they shall know in that day that I am He who speaks; behold, I AM! 7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good tidings, who publishes peace, who brings good tidings of good, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, Your God reigns! AMP

Isaiah 52:13-15

13 Behold, My Servant shall deal wisely and shall prosper; He shall be exalted and extolled and shall stand very high.14[For many the Servant of God became an object of horror; many were astonished at Him.] His face and His whole appearance were marred more than any man's, and His form beyond that of the sons of men — but just as many were astonished at Him,

15 So shall He startle and sprinkle many nations, and kings shall shut their mouths because of Him; for that which has not been told them shall they see, and that which they have not heard shall they consider and understand.

Isaiah 7:14

14 Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign: Behold, the young woman who is unmarried and a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel [God with us]. AMP

Matthew 1:21-23

21 She will bear a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus [the Greek form of the Hebrew Joshua, which means Savior], for He will save His people from their sins [that is, prevent them from failing and missing the true end and scope of life, which is God]. 22 All this took place that it might be fulfilled which the Lord had spoken through the prophet, 23 Behold, the virgin shall become pregnant and give birth to a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel — which, when translated, means, God with us. Joel 2:28-32

28 "Then after I have poured out my rains again, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions. 29 In those days, I will pour out my Spirit even on servants, men and women alike. 30 "I will cause wonders in the heavens and on the earth — blood and fire and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon will turn bloodred before that great and terrible day of the LORD arrives. 32 And anyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved. There will be people on Mount Zion in Jerusalem who escape, just as the LORD has said. These will be among the survivors whom the LORD has called. NLT

Romans 10:11-13

11 As the Scriptures tell us, "Anyone who believes in him will not be disappointed." 12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They all have the same Lord, who generously gives his riches to all who ask for them. 13 For "Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." 14 But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? 15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!" NLT
